At Roaring Brook Dairy, we take a lot of pride in helping our customers become accomplished home cheesemakers, and appreciate getting feedback on our DIY gourmet kits. We're thrilled with the reviews and testimonials we've been getting so far! Have you tried our Cheese or Butter Making kits? Let us know!
I was first introduced to this product when a friend had me over for dinner.
She had served the mozzarella and tomatoes as an appetizer. I knew immediately this was not store bought cheese so I asked her where she got it. I was completely surprised when she told me she made it that afternoon and knew I had to try this myself. I LOVE to cook and since I never made cheese before, I was so intrigued. I found the kit to have very clear directions. It only took an hour and it was a fun activity. It is going to be one of my top holiday presents. A cheese kit and a bottle of wine- you can't go wrong!
This was my first cheese making experiment. Oh my gosh, this was so easy!
This kit had everything needed, including step by step instructions, except the milk. It makes up to 4 pounds so buying the kit makes sense because even if you have to buy the milk, it is still cheaper than buying fresh cheese at the grocery. And it made the most wonderful, fresh string cheese imaginable. I will buy more supplies from this place!
About 40 minutes from milk to cheese.
I was hesitant to try to make the cheese after reading the instructions in the Wall Street Journal in Jan 2012 but the kit instructions were very easy very fast (about 40 minutes from milk to cheese) and could not have been any simpler. The only issue is what to do with the gallon of whey you have after the cheese is finished!
Great kit for 1st time cheese making!
I bought this at a local store and paid a little more than the price listed here. I absolutely LOVE the way my cheese came out, it was great for my first time cheese making experience. I definitely will purchase rennet tablets on their own in the future, but for my first time I thought the family would feel "safer" eating cheese made from a kit. As with all good food, it does make quite a big mess. I used cheesecloth to drain the whey and that is not included in the kit, but I only have a plastic seive and small chunks of curd could pass right through.
