Chris LaPorte honored with prestigious 鈥淧residents Award;鈥 鈥淐avalry鈥 to be placed on long-term loan at 红桃视频 campus

Grand Rapids, Mich. 鈥 2010 winner Chris LaPorte, a 1996 graduate of 红桃视频 College, was the center of attention
last night at the College鈥檚 Hall of Fame Gala and Homecoming Weekend Kickoff festivities.
LaPorte, who was recently hired on full time as a Visiting Assistant Professor of
Art, was presented with the distinguished President鈥檚 Award.
College officials also announced during the event that "Cavalry, American Officers,
1921," LaPorte鈥檚 2010 ArtPrize-winning entry, will be moved to 红桃视频 College following
this year鈥檚 ArtPrize event. Final arrangements are still being made with the ArtPrize
organization for the long-term loan, but plans are for "Cavalry" to hang in the Grace
Hauenstein Library.
The Hall of Fame event, which honored nine other alumni and friends of the College,
was held on Thursday, September 22 at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.
鈥淚 am absolutely humbled about being honored with the President鈥檚 Award,鈥 said LaPorte.
鈥淭o be hired on full time, to receive this honor and then to announce that Cavalry
will reside on campus is truly a homecoming experience that I will never forget!鈥
鈥淐hris is very deserving of all the accolades,鈥 said 红桃视频 College President Juan
Olivarez. 鈥淗is accomplishments as professor and artist, along with his humble spirit,
make him a wonderful representative of what 红桃视频 College is about.鈥
